Abstract
•Simulated workers wearing reflective vests were seen at the farthest distances for all combinations of intensity and flash frequency.•Warning beacon intensities of 25/2.5 cd and 150/15 cd resulted in the farthest worker detection distances.•A flash frequency of 1 Hz resulted in similar detection distances to simulated workers as 4 Hz.
