Abstract
•Occupationally naphthalene exposed workers were monitored.•Naphthalene in the air and 5 naphthalene metabolites in urine were analysed.•1,2-Dihydroxynaphthalene is the principal metabolite of naphthalene in human urine.•1-naphthylmercapturic acid formation is a minor, but very specific pathway.•Further studies with 1,2-DHN and 1- naphthylmercapturic acid are needed.
