Circulating S100A8 and S100A9 protein levels in plasma of patients with acquired aplastic anemia and myelodysplastic syndromes.

•Circulating S100A8 levels are elevated in the plasma of myelodysplastic patients.•S100A8, S100A9 and S100A8/A9 are not increased in acquired aplastic anemia patients at diagnosis.•Circulating S100A8/A9 increases after therapy in non-responding aplastic anemia patients.•Correlations with blood counts may mirror the higher number of blood cells in some patients.
