•There are several potential side-effects of the anti-epileptic drug therapy in children.•Our study suggested that the CIMT and EATT were significantly high in epileptic children receiving long-term anti-epileptic drug therapy.•These results demonstrate that these patients could be at increased risk of the development of cardiovascular complications.
