摘要
•Canine Kupffer cells (KC) internalize both promastigotes and amastigotes of Leishmania infantum.•Parasite internalization does not direct activation of KC innate immune receptors.•Infected-KC are anergic, presenting no distinctive cytokine gene expression.•Meglumine antimoniate reverts KC anergy, increasing gene expression of Toll-like receptors 2 and 4.•After treatment, activated KC generate pro-inflammatory and regulatory cytokines.
