•It is still unknown how frailty are related to aging-associated properties of the skin.•Skin biophysical properties were evaluated on the volar side of the forearm.•Skin thickness was decreased in frail older adults compared with non-frail people.•Low BMI was related to increased xerosis manifestations and decreased skin elasticity.
