Risk Analysis Based on the Timing of Tracheostomy Procedures in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury Requiring Cervical Spine Surgery

•A tracheostomy stoma before or immediately after surgery is associated with low infection risk in instrumented spinal fusion.•Adherence to good clinical practice guidelines during surgical and perioperative periods can be a decisive factor.•Mortality rates of groups at risk and not at risk did not differ significantly.
