Abstract
•Patients with heart failure have a high frequency of thromboembolic events (39.2%) at autopsy.•Many patients had more than a single event (1.6 events per patient).•Thromboembolic events were frequently associated with the death process (67.1% of the cases).•Female sex (OR 1.511) and Chagas etiology (OR 2.362) were independent risk factors for the occurrence of thromboembolisms.
