Co-expression of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and acyl-CoA binding protein enhances lipid accumulation in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica.

•ZWF1 and ACBP were co-expressed in Yarrowia lipolytica PEX10 null mutant.•Single ZWF1 over-expression impaired growth, ACBP introduction restored growth.•The engineered strain accumulated lipids to 30% of dcw.•Saturated fatty acids comprised 49% of total fatty acids.
