Assessment of the antigenic and neuroprotective activity of the subunit anti-Toxoplasma vaccine in T. gondii experimentally infected mice.

•ROP2 + ROP4 + SAG1 + MAG1 vaccine triggers specific immune response in male and female mice.•Vaccination leads to decrease in the number of cysts in specified brain regions.•The parasite-induced loss of aversion to cat smell is delayed in the vaccinated mice.•A peak in dopamine metabolism in vaccinated chronically infected males was noted.
