Abstract
•Acute CORT enhanced LTP in the mPFC of adolescent control rats but not in rats with previous maternal separation experience.•Maternally separated (MS) rats showed general impairment of LPT in the mPFC.•Acute CORT increased the expression of cFos, Arc, NCAM, BDNF and GDNF mRNA in the mPFC of control rats.•At mRNA levels of studied genes, MS rats displayed the opposite, diminished or absent effects in response to acute CORT.
