Value-based procurement of medical devices: Application to devices for mechanical thrombectomy in ischemic stroke.

•Cost-effectiveness methods are rarely used for the procurement of medical devices.•The procurement approach described herein is based on the net monetary benefit.•In this way, devices are ranked according to both their clinical benefit and cost.•This approach has been applied to thrombectomy devices in acute stroke.•Our results show that this form of procurement takes into account the clinical benefit.
