Abstract
Aim: Hepatoprotective effect of silymarin (extract from Silybum marianum) is based on its antioxidant potential associated with activation of transcription factor Nrf2 and elimination of free radicals. However, silymarin did not affect dyslipidemia and hepatic steatosis. We investigated whether administration of silymarin combined with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids as lipid lowering agent improves disorders associated with metabolic syndrome more effectively, than supplementation with alone silymarin.
