Monocyte and interferon based therapy for the treatment of ovarian cancer.

•Monocytes/macrophages have shown anti-cancer properties in vitro and in vivo.•Interferon alpha and interferon gamma have also shown anti-cancer properties but have limited efficacy in the clinic.•The combination of interferons and monocytes could be a promising combination treatment for malignancies.•Ovarian cancer has a high mortality rate due to chemotherapy resistance over time.•Intraperitoneal administration of monocytes and interferons could be a unique treatment for ovarian cancer.
