•Tetanus toxoid (TTxd) is poorly immunogenic in transcutaneous immunisation (TCI).•TCI with TTxd-Soluplus® increased the tetanus toxin neutralising antibody response.•Soluplus® enhanced the uptake of TTxd through the skin dermis and epidermis.
