Novel and divergent viruses associated with Australian orchid-fungus symbioses.

•Identified 22 novel viruses from wild terrestrial orchids and their fungal symbionts.•First reported virome of plants and their mycorrhizal partners in natural environment.•Two leaf-derived viruses were more related to mycoviruses than to plant viruses.•Extends known geographical range of Betapartitivirus, Hypovirus, Megabirnavirus, Mitovirus and Totivirus.•Inconsistent viral component associated with the same population over consecutive years.
