Validation Experiences on Autonomous and Connected Driving in AUTOCITS Pilot in Madrid.

One of the fundamental areas of development of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is autonomous driving. This driving cannot be conceived without the vehicles including connectivity, both with the infrastructure and with other vehicles, deploying autonomous and connected driving. This is one of the fundamental objectives of the AUTOCITS project, where autonomous driving is conceived as an extension of cooperative systems (C-ITS). As part of the work being carried out at AUTOCITS, a pilot is currently being deployed on public roads in Madrid (Spain) that involves cooperative autonomous driving, supported with connectivity with traffic management centers and C-ITS. This paper presents the work carried out within the AUTOCITS project in connected and autonomous driving, as well as the results of the first pilots deployed that involve this technology, focusing in the autonomous navigation and connectivity availability.
