Current state of the union of epilepsy care in the United States: Antiepileptic drugs — An introduction to the Connectors Project

•Study evaluated medical claims data of ~2.5 million patients with epilepsy from 2013 to 2015.•Many newly treated US patients are underserved in terms of newer AED use.•There are disparities between states in the access to newer AEDs.•Washington, DC, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas had highest use of phenytoin.
