Abstract
•Solar calculations are more sensitive to errors in measured obstacle altitude than azimuth.•Overall worst case sensitivity to obstacle position is relatively low (around 2% per degree error or less).•Both beam and diffuse irradiance calculations are similarly sensitive to horizon errors.•Combined uncertainty of irradiance for practical shading measurements is around 3%.
