A Preliminary Study on a Mobile System for Voice Assessment and Vocal Hygiene Training in Military Personnel.

The aim of this study is to verify part of a mobile voice assessment system, during the development phase to determine whether the specified phase requirements are met. Preliminary results serving this goal are reported. Voice quality characteristics are presented tabulating their statistical means and standard deviations. The results show that the voice characteristics of the sample of the study were in normal range. Significant statistical differences were noted for Voice Handicap Index Total and its dimensions and Reflux Symptoms Index between (i) the military population without voice disorders using the mobile system and (ii) an aged matched voice professional population with voice disorders that were traditionally administrated. No significant statistical difference were observed between (i) the military population without voice disorders using the mobile system and (ii) the corresponding population without voice disorders using the above questionnaires traditionally. Results of the study are discussed together with the perspective of vocal hygiene routines indicating the accuracy and therefore the verification of the mobile system according to requirements and design specifications.
