•Simple ultrasonic co-precipitation for Fe3O4-Guar Gum nanocomposite synthesis.•Highly stable and uniform cubical shaped Fe3O4-Guar Gum of size ≈48nm was obtained.•Complete reduction of p-nitroaniline (98%) by using Fe3O4-Guar Gum along with NaBH4.
