•MAC/SAL/PTZ and MAC/DZP0.15/PTZ groups decreased the formation of ROS.•MAC/SAL/PTZ and MAC/DZP0.15/PTZ groups decreased release of nitric oxide.•MAC/SAL/PTZ and MAC/DZP0.15/PTZ increased SOD and CAT activity.•MAC/SAL/PTZ and MAC/DZP0.15/PTZ reduced the expression of TNF-α.•Acupuncture had a protective effect against neuroinflammation and DNA damage.
