Abstract
The smart phones and their applications add the richness of the VANET applications and increase the requirements on data dissemination support of the networks. This paper focuses on the link reliability model for data dissemination in urban VANETs. First, we extend the analytic model on 1-dimension road to the roads with orthogonal crossings. Then, we verify the link reliability model for the irregularly crossed roads using Monte Carlo simulation. Based on these analytical results, we extend the evolving graph model with reliability (EGwR) on 1-D highway to 2-D urban environment. A data dissemination scheme based on EGwR is designed to verify the model efficacy. The scheme takes into account the macroscopic mobility pattern of vehicles and the impact on the link reliability of individual vehicle movement. Through extensive simulation study, the delivery ratio, latency, and the overhead factor of relay ratio are examined. The results demonstrate that our extended EGwR can effectively improve the data dissemination performance in metropolitan VANETs.
