Contribution of gene flow to the evolution of recombination suppression in sex chromosomes.

•Effects of male-limited selection on Y-autosome fusion establishment were studied.•Spatial variation of male-limited selection and gene flow were considered.•Simulations demonstrated that gene flow promotes the fusion establishment.•Sex-concordant selection does not promote the fusion establishment.•Gene flow can thus affect structural evolution of sex chromosomes.
