Multi-Objective Optimization Of Monitoring Well Location For Co2 Leakage Detection
PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2016 35TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE CHILEAN COMPUTER SCIENCE SOCIETY (SCCC)(2016)
Abstract
Capture and sequestration of CO2 in deep geological formations has been an important option to reduce the amount of CO2 in the environment. At the same time, the presence of abandoned wells with unknown permeability and possible cracks in it, make possible the leakage of CO2. So, monitoring wells can be placed to detect those leakages. A multi-objective algorithm combined with Kalman Filter can be used to determine how many monitoring wells are required and where to place them, to reduce the uncertainty of the system. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of this novel proposal for CO2 capturing and the advantages of considering this problem as multi-objective for the first time.
