Perceived System Evolution: Measuring Users Perceptions Of Changing Systems

Organizations face significant challenges in managing the period that follows information technology implementation but little consideration has been given to their evolution when studying user interactions with technology. This on-going research project aims to address this gap by studying how system evolution influences user behaviors. This paper has three objectives: 1) Synthesize the research that relates to system evolution and propose a conceptualization that can be used in future research, 2) Develop a measurement instrument and 3) Provide a preliminary test of our measure. Our study brings in implications for IS research, as a validated instrument of system evolution is essential in order to help understand its impact on user related outcomes, such as IT use and job performance.
