Development of recombinant vaccine candidate molecule against Shigella infection.

•rIpaB domain of S. flexneri fused with S. Typhi rGroEL increased the antibody titers.•Fusion protein induced both Th1 and Th2 type of immune response in mice .•Fusion protein protected 90–95% of mice from lethal infection of Shigella spp.•Organ burden, histology showed reduced lung infection in fusion immunized mice.•rIpaB-GroEL fusion protein is an efficient vaccine molecule against Shigella serotypes.
