Dynamic Electronic Institutions For Patient Treatment Adherence Monitoring

In the coming years most therapies for managing chronic diseases will be performed away from the institutional care setting. Patients will be required to autonomously follow their prescribed treatment. Information technologies applied to health care can provide support for medication adherence, specially in patients with diseases that require poly-pharmacological treatment. These scenarios can benefit from norm-aware electronic distributed systems based on agent technologies that can ensure compliance with the different actors to the expected behaviours and medical policies. In this paper we present a framework to manage normative change at execution time applied to the creation of intelligent distributed services to safely assist patients in several daily tasks related to their health care, focused (but not restricted to) pharmacological treatment adherence.
