The impacts of premorbid hypertension treatment on functional outcomes of ischemic stroke.

•Premorbid treatments of hypertension may improve functional outcomes of stroke.•The proportion of hypertensives without treatment before stroke is considerably high in Chinese.•The low rates of premorbid hypertension treatment may be a reason for the high rates of mortality and morbidity of stroke in China, which warrant further studies.
