ism ? has tended to replace the trivial mischief of yesteryear.2 But deploring the present situation and waiting until the societal situation changes is a non solution. Hence one school faculty, in the Herbert Marcus Elementary School of Dallas, Texas, decided to do some thing about it by embarking upon a year-long staff development effort de signed to provide the tools for better management. The goal was a realistic working model designed to identify disciplinary alternatives which would be systematically employed throughout the 1974-75 school year. The faculty felt that if they could train themselves to be better classroom managers they would reduce he need for discipline in its customary sense and, at the same ti e, probably increase pupil achievement.
