•Oxytocin significantly increases HSD3B activity in PC-3 but significantly inhibits HSD3B activity in LNCaP prostate cancer cell lines.•Oxytocin significantly increases activity of SRD5A in LNCaP but does not affect SRD5A activity in PC-3 prostate cancer cell lines.•These effects are manifest at the protein level, not at the gene level.
