Antifeedant activities of methanol extracts of four Zanthoxylum species and benzophenanthridines from stem bark of Zanthoxylum schinifolium against Tribolium castaneum

•Four different Zanthoxylum species were collected and their antifeedant effects were performed on Tribolium castaneum adults.•Six benzophenanthridines were isolated from the stem bark of Zanthoxylum schinifolium, and their antifeedant activities against Tribolium castaneum adults were assessed for the first time.•The six benzophenanthridines could be responsible for the main antifeedant activity of Z. schinifolium. They would be a promising alternative in the control of stored-product insects.
