Activities of Apiaceae essential oils and volatile compounds on hatchability, development, reproduction and nutrition of Pseudaletia unipuncta (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

•EOs and compounds from 4 Apiaceae influenced P. unipuncta development and nutrition.•A. graveolens and C. cyminum EOs, carvone and cuminaldehyde disrupted embryogenesis.•P. crispum (parsley) EOs, and their major compounds, reduced eggs hatchability.•t-Anethole and cuminaldehyde inhibited the assimilation/conversion of food to biomass.•Parsley fruit EO showed ovicidal, larvicidal, feeding/growth inhibitory activities.
