Assessment of phenotypic diversity and agronomic contrast in American accessions of Jatropha curcas L.

•We evaluated 15 accessions of Jatropha curcas collected in America.•We determined the effect of environment on morphological character expression to point them as potential morphological descriptors.•We observed that the variation of attributes agromorphological reported in accessions of Jatropha curcas in Asia is similar to accessions in America.•No morphological differences among accessions were observed with respect to the origin of collection, which indicates high diversity.
