Abstract
•We examined floral scent in Narcissus by headspace collection and capillary gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.•We examined the effect of floral architecture, daytime and flower age on scent emission.•Double flowers have a more complex volatile profile and double amount of scent compared to simple flowers.•Both varieties produce roughly double amount of scent during the day compared to the night showing circadian emission.•Scent profile changes and total amount of volatiles is reduced upon flower aging.
