Su1669 Endoscopic Preoperative Biliary Drainage in Patients With Malignant Distal Biliary Obstruction - Multicenter Retrospective Analysis of 422 Patients -

A recent meta-analysis showed that preoperative endoscopic biliary drainage (EBD) with placement of a plastic stent (PS) did not have a beneficial effect on the surgical outcome compared to the early direct surgery without EBD in patients with obstructive jaundice due to pancreas head cancer. However, EBD is still necessary in such patients as requiring diagnostic ERCP for pathological confirmation or extent of the cancer, requiring other examinations for concomitant diseases before surgery, or waiting in line for surgery especially in tertiary hospitals.
