Abstract
Biological characteristics have been studied in three flatfish species, the Arctic flounder Liopsetta glacialis , European flounder Platichthys flesus , and common dab Limanda limanda , collected by trawling and with fixed nets in different areas of the White Sea in 2001–2013. Flatfishes of the eastern areas of the sea are characterized by slower growth rates and a longer age series with a considerable proportion of older individuals. The greatest proportion of left-eye European flounders has been found in western areas of the sea. Pigmentation of the blind side of the body is recorded most frequently in Arctic flounders of Onega Bay.
