•Compatibility between various reagents/products and DNA analysis was tested.•Some 3M Scotch® tapes inhibited DNA extraction when using Promega DNA IQ™.•MAGNA™ Jet Black inhibited DNA extraction when using Promega DNA IQ™.•Centrifugation or filtration to remove MAGNA™ Jet Black improved DNA yields.•STR profiles exhibited expected quality.
