Absorption of ammonia into water-in-oil microemulsion in a rotor-stator reactor

•NH3 absorption into W/O microemulsion in a rotor-stator reactor (RSR) was studied.•Density and viscosity of the microemulsion increased with increasing water content.•The Henry’s constant decreased with increasing water content.•Mass transfer coefficient rose with increasing water content and rotation speed.•The RSR shows much higher mass transfer efficiency than the packed tower.
