Modelling antibiotics transport in a waste stabilization pond system in Tanzania

•We developed a simple model describing the removal of antibiotics from WSPs.•Measured concentrations of trimethoprim were used to calibrate and validate the model.•The model was applied on other antibiotics based on their characteristic properties.•A sensitivity analysis showed that Koc was the most sensitive parameter.•Settling was the major removal process of antibiotics from the WSP.
