•Various phase equilibria of the [thepAm][Br]–CO2 system was measured and modeled.•[thepAm][Br] shows the highest CO2 solubility among the reported after around 10MPa.•A D(c) model was proposed for CO2 absorption in [thepAm][Br] at high pressure.•The diffusivity of CO2 in [thepAm][Br] is very pressure dependent.
