Widely tunable operation of a mixed crystal Tm:(LuxY1-x)(3)Al5O12 (Tm:LuYAG) laser is reported using a volume Bragg grating (VBG) as the wavelength selective component. The operating wavelength was continuously tunable from 1935.3 to 1994.9 nm (corresponding to a tuning range of similar to 60 nm), and a maximum output power of 1.76 W at 1999.7 nm was obtained for a launched pump power of 10.75 W with the VBG used at normal incidence.
