TEMOPORFIN IMPROVES TUMORICIDAL EFFICACY OF PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY (PDT) FOR BILE DUCT CANCER

Aim: Local ablation of hilar bile duct cancer (BDC) using porfimer and laser irradiation (632nm) of tumour stenoses improves obstructive cholestasis and survival time, although the tumoricidal effect is confined to inner 4mm of the tumour wall (6–9mm) resulting in TTP >6 months. We have studied (EUDRA CT Nr.2005–004866–17), whether temoporfin-based PDT (T-PDT, 652 nM) shows twice as deep tumoricidal tissue penetration and similar adverse events.
