Oral bisphosphonate therapy in the long-term course after orthotopic liver transplantation. A prospective single-centre study.

Objective: Bone loss is a common complication pre and post liver transplantation (LT). There is increasing evidence that bisphosphonate are helpful in preventing steroid-related as well as postmenopausal osteoporosis. Its role in osteoporosis after LT has been controversially discussed. The aim of this study was to analyse the efficacy of bisphosphonates to prevent further progression of bone density loss in patients after LT.
