A Simple and Rapid Estimation of Major Bioactive Arnebin-1 from the Natural Dye Plant, Arnebia nobilis Reichb. f.

Summary Arnebia nobilis has gained an increasing popularity for the recently recognized various pharmacological activities. The root part of A. nobilis is a useful source for the naphthoquinones. For their identification and quantification, a high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method was established. Chromatography was performed on silica gel HPTLC aluminum plates with toluene-ethyl acetate-formic acid (80:19:01, v/v ) as mobile phase leading to sufficient separation of the components. HPTLC analysis proved to be an inexpensive method for the quantification of arnebin-1.
