A New Technique For Calibrating The Momentum Scale Of A Pi-Meson Channel Using The Threshold Of Eta-Meson Production

The paper describes a new technique for calibrating the momentum scale of a pi-meson channel using the curve of the pi(-)p --> eta n reaction yield versus momentum around its threshold. The experimental curves are compared to calculations using the Monte-Carlo method. An experimental facility designed for these measurements on the pi-meson channel of the synchrocyclotron at the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI) is described. The calibration uncertainty is within +/-0.5%.
