Motorcycle riders’ perceptions, attitudes and strategies: Findings from a focus group study

•Focus group discussions were conducted with riders to better understand motorcycle riding.•Safety-related perceptions, attitudes and behavioural strategies were assessed.•Results concern individual behaviour and interactions among riders and other road users.•Environment-related hazards and improvement suggestions for riding safety are identified.•Relevant issues that should be further investigated and countermeasures are discussed.
