摘要
Hyperhidrosis is defined as excessive and uncontrollable sweating without a discernible cause that can be occupationally and socially disabling. It can pose a diagnostic challenge, especially in the aging female population that may already be experiencing menopause, changes in thermoregulation, and altered drug metabolism. The clinical picture could be further complicated by the presence of multiple medications prescribed for the management of their chronic health conditions in this population. The worsening of an existing condition from a medication is not uncommon and could further complicate the clinical assessment and recognition of a preventable problem. This could potentially increase not only the health care cost but also predispose the elderly to unnecessary medical intervention, thereby increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality.
