Although many reports were discussed not only the short-term outcome but also the long-term outcome for postoperative urinary symptoms, little has been reported regarding the couple's sexual function. We prospectively evaluated the impact of TOT on postoperative couple's sexual function. METHODS Between March 2010 and June 2011, sixty five patients undergoing TOT and their male sexual partners were enrolled in this study. If the patients or their sexual partners didn't want to answer the questionnaires, they were excluded. An investigation was performed using validated, self-administered questionnaires for the evaluation of couple's sexual function. Female patients were evaluated using Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), a 6-domain structure was identified, which included desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. Male sexual partners were evaluated using satisfaction domain on Male Sexual Healthy Questionnaire (MSHQ), a 6-item was identified, which included sexual relationship, quality of sex life, number of sex, partner's affection during sex, communication about sex, and other relationship. They completed the research on preoperative and postoperative visits at 3, 6, 12 months. RESULTS A total of fifty six couples completed this study. The mean age was patients 46.7 (range 34-63) years and sexual partners 49.1 (range 37-66) years. The mean follow-up was 16.5 (range 12-26) months. There was a significant loss of total FSFI score at postoperative 3 months (p<0.05) and regained after postoperative 6 months. In comparison with baseline and postoperative 12 months, total FSFI score was a significant improvement (p<0.001). There were significant improvement in desire, arousal, orgasm, and satisfaction on FSFI domain (p=0.018, 0.012, 0.014, and 0.008). There were significant improvement in sexual relationship, quality of sex life, partner's affection during sex, and communication about sex on MSHQ satisfaction domain (p=0.018, 0.016, 0.001, and 0.003). CONCLUSIONS Improvement of incontinence by TOT can improve not only female sexual function but also their partners' sexual satisfaction. © 2013 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 189Issue 4SApril 2013Page: e425 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2013 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.MetricsAuthor Information Phil Hyun Song Daegu, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Yoon Seob Ji Daegu, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Ji Woong Choi Daegu, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Hong Seok Shin Daegu, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Young Hwii Ko Daegu, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Hee Chang Jung Daegu, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Ki Hak Moon Daegu, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
