Magnetic polar post-cross-linked resin and its adsorption towards salicylic acid from aqueous solution

•A strategy to synthesize magnetic polar post-cross-linked resin was proposed.•This resin had a large equilibrium and dynamic capacity to salicylic acid.•This resin exhibited fast kinetics because of its micropores and its polar groups.•This resin can be repeatedly used with the excellent regeneration behavior.
